Office Mission

To provide a confidential, compassionate response to complaints of sexual abuse by clergy, religious, lay personnel, and volunteers serving the Diocese of Great Falls-Billings.

To provide a supportive vehicle to address sexual abuse issues, create transparent public awareness in relation to protection, and actively promote safe, healthy communities of faith.

Under the USCCB Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People, Teresa Schmit serves as the Victim Assistance Coordinator for the Diocese of Great Falls-Billings, assisting in the immediate pastoral care of persons who claim to have been sexually abused as minors by clergy or other church personnel. The Victim Assistance Coordinator services are entirely confidential and available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Important Civil Reporting Notice: Under Montana law, if you suspect abuse or neglect of a minor or vulnerable adult, you must report it directly to civil law enforcement or state authorities. Reporting to the diocese does not satisfy your legal obligation under civil mandated reporting statutes.
